ATTENTION WALKERS

Walkers are welcomed and encouraged to continue their morning routines on the Shattuck-St. Mary's Track. Rest Rooms in the Ice Arena facilities will be available. Please make our outdoor facilities your home for walking for the rest of the winter months.

We look forward to your return to the Dane Family Soccer Dome in late autumn when the cold winter temperatures start to re-appear! Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact John Menk, the Director of Program and Facility Development at the School.

Thank you, Shattuck-St. Mary’s School

Nutrition Notes

A healthy body is a well-nourished body. Every cell in the body requires 40 essential nutrients to stay healthy. But what is health? Generally we think of “being healthy” as being free from disease.

Eating in moderation from each of the food groups provides this balance of nutrients designed to make the cells strong enough to ward off disease and to generate the growth of new healthy cells.

Look to the new Food Guide Pyramid (www.mypyramid.gov) to tell you the specific number of servings that you should have from each food group for your gender, age, and activity level.

Notice also the shape of the pyramid. Each food group is totally dependant on all of the other groups to be a stable pyramid. This is intentional. Today we know that it is the interaction of the food groups that provides the proper distribution of nutrients needed to improve the health of individual cells that make up a healthy individual.

Weight control tip #1
Do not go on a diet. Instead, eat in moderation from each of the food groups: whole grains, fruits, vegetables, milk, meat and beans, and fats. A well-nourished body naturally sheds excess pounds and fat. A malnourished body tends to horde fat in an effort of self-preservation.
